Narrative
Our society is made up of many different cultures, subcultures,
and lifestyles.
We all have aspects of our lives that others might not be aware of.
For this project you are to document some aspect of your life and the
part of society you connect with in the form of a photo essay.
You will share
your special insight to this part of your life and our culture.
You should be familiar with your subject and have the accessibility to
photograph your subject in depth and repeatedly.
This is a project about investigation and social awareness.
You are the cultural observer, recorder, documenting an aspect of our
society.
You will shoot multiple
sessions using at least two rolls of film.
You will produce a series of at least 4 images that
should be viewed in sequence.
You will create an artist statement for this work.
The images may or may not
have text related to them for the viewer.
Consider sequence, flow
and unity of design and content to strengthen your series.
Steps
for completion of this assignment:
1)
Consider your options and opportunities and create
a written proposal.
Consult
with the instructor to make sure this project will work for the class.
2)
Shoot your first roll (s), contact print, evaluate.
4) Consult with
instructor to develop strategies for completion.
You must have the first attempts evaluated before shooting the followup.
5) Shoot more film
6) Produce at least
4 half sheet prints for presentation.
7) Prepare
an artist statement and title for the series.
Statement must be printed out AND e-mailed
to photo@properproof.com
Identify
your work! You must identify the sequence of the images and provide
your written narration
and contact sheets.
